Sharon L. Nelson

Sharon L. Nelson is a retired lawyer. She currently serves as a director of Itron, a company headquartered in Spokane.

Her employment history includes serving as Chief of the Consumer Protection Division of the Washington Attorney General’s Office from 2003 to 2006, and as Director of the Shidler Center for Law, Commerce and Technology at the University of Washington School of Law from 2000 to 2003. She served as Chairman of the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission from 1985 to 1997 and as President of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners in 1989 to 1990.

Nelson joined the KCTS 9 Board in 2013. She previously served as a commissioner on the National Commission on Energy Policy (2002 to 2010), and on the board of Consumers Union (1984 to 2008), serving eight years as Chair. She served on the boards of the non-profit North American Electric Reliability Corporation (1999 to 2010) and two telecom companies, Covad and XO Communications.

Nelson has served on numerous blue ribbon committees at the state and local government level and on research committees for the National Academies of Science and other nonprofit boards. She received her B.A. from Carleton College, M.A.T. from the University of Chicago, and J.D. from the University of Washington.
