Jan 17, 3:00am Dr. David Perlmutter's Whole Life Plan
Dr. David Perlmutter's Whole Life Plan: S0E0 (1 hour 56 min)

You can choose your health destiny. Effortless weight loss. Freedom from neurological disorders and other chronic conditions. Boundless energy. A radiant appearance. Sound sleep. A happy belly. A robust immune system. Relief from depression and anxiety. A sharp, fast-thinking brain. A great sense of self-confidence and well-being. A super-high quality of life. These are all terrific goals, and who wouldn't want to achieve them? But such monumental accomplishments don't come without hard work and sacrifices. You can't necessarily turn away from the standard American diet- bread, soda, OJ, sugar, cereal, muffins, bagels, processed foods-and embrace a totally gluten-free, low-carb lifestyle overnight. It takes commitment. It takes effort. But it's doable with the plan outlined in this program. More than a million people around the world have improved their health-physical, mental, and cognitive-thanks to Dr. Perlmutter's bestselling books, Grain Brain and Brain Maker. Now the time has come to bring these two forces together in a highly practical, step-by-step holistic lifestyle program. Welcome to Dr. Perlmutter's Whole Life Plan. Dr. Perlmutter puts his ideas into practice in the real world to show you that living your best life is about much more than what you put in your mouth. It expands upon the core advice in his previous programs and introduces exciting new information about the advantages of eating more fat and fiber, consuming fewer carbs and protein, evicting gluten forever, and catering to your intestinal flora. Food is a central component of the program, but so are other key aspects to achieving the best results: the timing of when you eat, sleep, and exercise; knowing which supplements to take and which medications to potentially drop; reducing daily stress and even chemical exposures in your physical environment; nurturing relationships and your own self-care; addressing the challenges in life with grace and ease; routinely creating goals for your personal development; and finding time for the kinds of physical activities that power the brain while healing the body. The program offers nutritional and health advice that's been validated over and over again in the scientific literature, but also more extensive science has emerged. Even the U.S. government has modified its dietary guidelines to reflect this research, backing away from endorsing low-fat, low-cholesterol diets. If you assume that this is just another diet that will test your willpower and resolve - it will disappoint you on that front. Dr. Perlmutter's Whole Life Plan gives you a jump-start to a healthy way of living that you will be able to sustain indefinitely.

But these ecosystem engineers are doing more than finding new home, they’re mitigating some of the impacts of climate change for an another important Washington species, salmon. The relocated beavers dam up streams creating deep cool pools where the fish can thrive. The hope is to restore stream systems back to the condition they were in before they were heavily modified for the beavers and the fish.

1964: The Fight for a Right: S0E0 (56 min)

By the mid twentieth century, Mississippi's African Americans had suffered from nearly 75 years of slavery by another name - Jim Crow discrimination. In 1964 in Mississippi, people died in an effort to force the state to allow African Americans to exercise their constitutional right to vote. Although, the 50th anniversary of Freedom Summer has passed, the struggle for voting rights is still pertinent. According to the NAACP, states have recently passed the most laws limiting voter participation since Jim Crow. Moreover, these laws also disenfranchise other people of color, the elderly, poor, and disabled. With the 2015 anniversary of the Voting Rights Act as well as the upcoming presidential primaries and general election, voting rights will remain at the forefront of a national debate. With historical footage and interview with Freedom Summer architects and volunteers, as well as present day activists, 1964: THE FIGHT FOR A RIGHT uses Mississippi to explain American voting issues in the last 150 years. For instance, why are red states red?

Ripple of Hope: S0E0 (54 min)

A RIPPLE OF HOPE captures an extraordinary and uplifting event against the backdrop of one of the most volatile and memorable Presidential campaigns in U.S. history. On April 4, 1968, Robert F. Kennedy - a contender for the Democratic nomination for President - was en route to Indianapolis to make a campaign stop in a predominantly African-American neighborhood. In Memphis, Tenn. that same night, gunman James Earl Ray shot and mortally wounded the leader of the civil rights movement, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Upon hearing the tragic news, Kennedy made a crucial decision: risking his own life and defying city officials, he ventured into the inner city and addressed the grief-stricken crowd gathered in a park. He stood atop a shaky, flat-bed truck and delivered one of the great political speeches of the 20th century: a moving, extemporaneous plea for peace and reconciliation. By keeping his promise to speak, Kennedy helped Indianapolis avert the violence that swept the rest of the country. Within weeks of this speech, on June 6, 1968, Kennedy also would fall victim to an assassin's bullet. A RIPPLE OF HOPE tells the dramatic story of that historic night through archival film, photos and dramatic reenactments, and by drawing on interviews with Kennedy aides and associates, including Kennedy press secretary Frank Mankiewicz,

George tries to squirrel-proof the birdhouse, moving it further from the tree trunk, clearing away freestanding objects, and even developing a pulley laundry line system to hang it from. But to no avail - that squirrel can climb - and apparently eat - anything! Why does Jumpy keep taking the seeds? Has his appetite suddenly grown - or maybe they're not all for him? EDU OBJ: To illustrate that all products and systems are subject to failure; and that many can be fixed through troubleshooting. George-asaurus: Professor Wiseman needs the Man with the Yellow Hat's help to assemble some rare dinosaur bones into a skeleton in time for an important archaeologist, Dr. Raj Desai, to see them. Wiseman and the Man finish the task and meet Dr. Desai for lunch. Meanwhile, George and Gnocchi play outside with a toy plane, which floats though a window--landing on the newly assembled dinosaur. When George climbs the fragile bones to retrieve it, the entire skeleton collapses! Using another dinosaur as a model, George is able to organize, sort, and piece together the bones back into its proper form. But how will Dr. Desai feel about a monkey working on his precious dinosaur bones, especially when the wrong head ends up on the dinosaur's skeleton? EDU OBJ: To sort and classify bones based on their shape and size. To develop an understanding of symmetry by reassembling the dinosaur bones so that each bone on one side of the body matches the equivalent bone on the other side (e.g., size, shape, location).
