Weekender: Top Family Events for Seattle and the Eastside

We’ve rounded up outings to please every family in the Puget Sound this weekend!

June 13, 2018

Hey, Sunday is Father’s Day so it’s high time to celebrate all the terrific papas out there — the ones changing diapers, driving to dance class and bringing home the tempeh bacon. We have our usual top picks for weekend activities below, plus check out our Dad-centric round-up of the best Father’s Day weekend family activities.

  • Partake in strawberry mania, snack on shortcake and prep for making jam at three local strawberry fests (through Sunday).
  • It’s a super low tide weekend — and a sunny one at that — and beaches up and down the Sound area ready for tide pool explorers (through Sunday).
  • Celebrate freedom at a free community gathering marking Juneteenth (Friday).
  • At this Pride edition of a family bird walk, LGBT also means “Let’s go birding together!” Allies welcome (Saturday).
  • Make certain your wee ones are safe in your car at a free car seat safety and installation check (Saturday).
  • It’s Migratory Bird Day! Learn about the long journeys birds take and the perils they face through free games and kids’ activities (Saturday).
  • Celebrate our awesome neighbors... trees! This green team is super-important to our survival, find out why, and be sure to preregister (Saturday).
  • Climb aboard for a free tour of Greenpeace’s historic ship The Arctic Sunrise (Saturday–Sunday).
  • Watch those wacky naked bicyclists in the anything-goes annual Fremont Solstice Parade on Saturday (1 p.m.), catch the pooch parade Sunday (2:30 p.m.) and relish Fremont Fair activities all weekend (Saturday–Sunday).
  • Try drumming African rhythms, take part in hands-on activities and enjoy live music and culture at this weekend’s free Festival Sundiata (Saturday–Sunday).
  • Stretch out on the grass, watch the boats go by and listen to live music in the gardens (Saturday–Sunday).
  • There’s a cool ride for everyone to love at the Eastside's awesome vintage car show or check out the classics lining the street in downtown Burien (Sunday).
  • It’s the Father’s Day edition of Bicycle Sunday, an opportunity for pedalers of all ages to take a free ride along the lake (Sunday).

Try out nature’s roller coaster and go mountain biking as a family; gather up our local berry bounty at U-pick farms around the Sound; or relax on the way to the trails riding in style. Escape the city in mere minutes and try on island life for the day or try out fishing with kids at these local fishing lakes. And don’t you know it? Our family fun calendar has dozens of great activities for every day of the week.
