5 Ways to Get Down with Downton Abbey 5

December 23, 2014

The season is upon us -- the holiday season and Downton Abbey Season 5! All of us at KCTS 9 are excited too, because we'll be enjoying Downton right along with you through our blog posts, Facebook and Twitter updates, and our Tellygram emails every Thursday. (Sign up for Tellygram here.) When anticipation sets in, a good way to pass the time is to make a list -- so here's ours suggesting what you can do to be ready for this beautiful new season from Masterpiece. From the top!

5) Plan a Downton Abbey 5 Viewing Party!

Here's a party checklist to get you started:

  • Mark the calendar for Sunday, January 4, at 9pm, on KCTS 9.

  • Invite your dearest fellow fans/neighbors/partner/cats/old doggie.

  • Fluff the sofa pillows. Dust your TV screen with a soft cloth..

  • Set out the refreshments: sweet and savory nibbles and (decaf) tea/hot toddy/champagne cocktails/wine/whiskey/etc. Break out the crystal if you’ve got it. Or find some at Goodwill.

  • Warm up with the Season 4 finale episode at 7pm.

  • Ring a silver bell at 9pm to commence Season 5

  • Live tweet with @KCTS9 and follow along with the hashtag #DowntonPBS

Extra Credit:

  • Invite a Downton newbie to indoctrinate!

  • Host an indoor picnic à la Cora’s American mother Martha Levinson in Season 3: Anyone can eat whatever they want, wherever they want!

4) TRIVIA TIME! A historical who's who!?

Do you remember the fates of these characters?

1) Join the virtual tea party, #BIGsip, on January 2

Before the premiere of Downton Abbey 5 on 1/4, Masterpiece would like to cause a bit of a stir with a virtual tea party. Here at the station we’ll be having a Tea Party with our public tv co-workers on Friday, January 2. Won’t you join us virtually -- from wherever you are? Show your enthusiasm for Downton Abbey by drinking your tea and sharing a photo with the hashtag #BIGsip.

Whether you use fine china or a travel mug, let your tea bag tag be a flying flag for your exquisite taste in programming! Long live Downton Abbey! (Hot tip: Check out these Downton Abbey-branded tea party supplies.)
