Black Mountain Performs “Space to Bakersfield”

Hear their psychedelic sound live on KEXP.

November 10, 2016

KEXP presents Black Mountain performing “Space To Bakersfield” live in the KEXP studio. Recorded April 22, 2016.

When Vancouver-based band Black Mountain stepped in the studio, we got a contact high. Not necessarily from their clothing, but definitely from their heavy, sludgy, psychedelic sound. Vocalists Stephen McBean and Amber Webber trade verses over a Black Sabbath-inspired wave of droning guitar and keyboard. The KEXP session was a little bit of a homecoming, as the band recorded the new album, IV , right here in Seattle with Randall Dunn at Avast Studios.

“Randall Dunn is a kind of legend around these parts,” explained drummer Joshua Wells. “He’s known for the big, crushing weight of darkness that he brings and it’s exactly what we wanted.”
