Golden Apple Moments

French Teacher Jon Magnus from Wenatchee High School Wins Golden Apple Award. C’est magnifique!

Congratulations to Jon Magnus on being recognized as one of the recipients of the 2019 Golden Apple Moments for his outstanding achievements in education in Washington State.

February 13, 2019

Jon Magnus, International Language teacher at Wenatchee High School, has traveled the world, literally. In his book "S.H.I.N.E. Life Lessons Revealed," Magnus hopes to inspire his students in French class to see beyond their own experience. "As an international language teacher, I consistently strive to prepare my students to be productive global citizens."

His down-to-earth, authentic teaching style piques their interest to know more about French culture. Using technology like FaceTime and Google Earth, students can see and converse in real time with other students in France. The Eiffel Tower and the Louvre are now right in front of them. Magnus’s additional commitment to his students goes beyond the school. He founded Interact Club, with Wenatchee High School students taking on community and global projects through major fundraising activities.

"Our job is one of tremendous responsibility," Magnus says, adding, "To prepare students to lead productive and successful lives in a world that is increasingly interdependent."

My name is Christopher and I have been attending Spanish classes in Peru for four weeks. One week I spent at the campus in the Sacred Valley, at the Peruvian countryside. It was so nice to get out of the city of Cusco for a while. With a small group of students we were living together with the teachers, we got really close and we had the opportunity to hike in nature, to expore the valley and more. The food was really tasty. My Spanish skills improved a lot. I would definitely recommend this Spanish course to other students. You will see more of Peru. I was really happly surprised, it was a great thing that the school offered this opportunity to learn Spanish at the Peruvian countryside.
