KCTS 9 Cooks

Host Mark Christopher

Mark was born and raised in Seattle just up the hill (Queen Anne) from KCTS 9. The youngest of seven and was so very shy. His Dad was one of the first test pilots and flight instructors at BOEING shorty after being shot down in WWll. He was one of the first to fly/instruct in the 747 program. His Mom opened one of the first women's consignment dress shops in Seattle, Mary's Pop In's.  She outfitted many of the first women in Seattle television and quickly became the I'Magnin's of Thrift Shops.

Mark's first taste of the culinary world was at the Edgewater Hotel where he was a food server and  room service waiter. Often serving celebrities and famous performers. His first solo room service delivery being actress Connie Stevens. That's where Mark learned they too were just normal people (Connie only tipped Mark fifty cents on a $50 delivery).

A summer in Montana visiting his sister at a radio station would fuel his dream of broadcasting.  His radio journey began in Colfax, WA  just a couple weeks after Mount St. Helens came back to life. His quest for hometown Seattle would place him in Shelton, Spokane and Everett before his hiring at KIXI FM for weekends in 1983.  Two months later a departing Robert O' Smith Morning Show insisted Mark was the next "Seattle radio guy".  Mark soon became morning host and Program Director. A few years later he  joined the many icon radio talents of KJR (still an AM music powerhouse) before a 20 year midday show on KBSG 97.3  During this time Mark was seen often on KCTS Pledge nights hosting programs of music and shows with a Northwest theme.

Mark has hosted KCTS9 cooks since 2009. He is  busy throughout the community as emcee or host of many popular year round events (Seafair, Christmas in Seattle, Summer festivals,  Benefit Auctions, and various  Concert venues).  Mark also has a deep rolodex of stars and performers he has interviewed. Most recent names added in 2014 would include Barry Manilow, Jackie Evancho, Martin Short, Steve Harvey, Burt Bacharach, Dax Shepard, Kristen Bell, Richard Marx, Lily Tomlin, Cyndi Lauper and a rare chat with violinist Mair'ead of Celtic Woman (very shy).

Mark has also been seen hosting city tours as "Capt. Noah Lott" with  Ride The Ducks Of Seattle.
