Bumbershoot Creative Core (BCC) - The 12 Days of Bumbershoot

The 9 Media Lab at KCTS and One Reel have partnered to create the Bumbershoot Creative Core (BCC), a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the next generation of filmmakers. This year, 70 youth throughout the region became the official filmmakers of the Bumbershoot Festival. Paired with professionals in the field, BCC teams got full access to the festival and interviewed artists, filmed performances, and covered the other amazing arts and cultural events that are a part of the weekend.

BCC

The 12 Days of Bumbershoot: a new behind-the-scenes Bumbershoot story released each day to ring in the season with some Festival yule. Filmed by the Bumbershoot Creative Core (BCC), a group of high school students who are aspiring film makers, in partnership with the 9 Media Lab at KCTS Television.

What is BCC, who are they, and why Bumbershoot is such a special experience for these young filmmakers. Watch it on YouTube.

Coming up next: The Latinos Story Project
Presenting a closer look into the Latino culture through stories of traditions and identity from a diverse group of people including painters, students and musicians.

The Latinos Story Project KCTS 9 Media Lab - Latinos Story Project

Currently in post-production.

For centuries, Latinos have played a key role in America’s history; however, their stories have never been widely shared. Until now. The Latinos Story Project takes a closer look into the Latino culture through stories of traditions and identity from a diverse group of people including painters, students and musicians.

In conjunction with the PBS national series Latino Americans and KCTS 9’s Latinos: The Changing Face of Washington, the 9 Media Lab created a platform for the Latino community to tell their story.

Our partner organizations for this project are: Seattle Latino Film Festival, Latino/a Educational Achievement Project (LEAP), El Centro De La Raza, Seattle Public Library and the University of Washington.

Previous Project: Makers Workshop
In conjunction with the release of MAKERS: Women Who Make America, the 9 Media Lab provided a platform for youth to tell the stories of local women who have inspire them.

About 9 Media Lab

9 Media Lab

KCTS’s 9 Media Lab breaks down the boundaries between the stories we watch and the people who live them. We empower the community to create and share grassroots documentaries on issues impacting our region.

Through topical projects and digital storytelling classes, KCTS provides a unique platform for the community to develop media skills and share personal perspectives on the issues that move us.
