News & Politics Editor

March 16, 2018

KCTS 9 and its sister organization, the award-winning regional news site Crosscut, are searching for a seasoned editor to lead a team of public-interest journalists producing text, video and multimedia stories about news and politics in Seattle, Washington state and the Pacific Northwest.

The News & Politics team explores and explains the dramatic change underway in the region; watchdogs elected leaders, public officials and government agencies; and facilitates dialog between community members and policymakers, and across urban-rural, east-west, red-blue and racial/cultural divides. Stories are produced primarily for digital platforms, although some of our video content is broadcast on KCTS 9 as a means of raising awareness of our work.

The ideal candidate for News & Politics Editor will have a deep understanding of politics and public policy in Seattle and Washington state, and a penchant for blending words and images into powerful stories. The editor will manage a team of seasoned writers and video producers, collaborating with social media wizards and web developers to make KCTS 9 and Crosscut essential sources of news, analysis and perspective for the region.

We are engaged in creating a new kind of newsroom, with a need for new kinds of skills. We've laid out below some ideal qualifications, but we are willing to work with the right candidate to grow into newer aspects of the job. Our top priority is finding a passionate editor who will exercise good judgment, leadership and a passion for honest discussions of politics, growth, and how our region can be more inclusive and attuned to the needs of everyone.

If you think you're the person who can make a difference for us and the communities in the Puget Sound region and beyond, we want to hear from you!
