This event has expired.

Celebrating its 48th consecutive year, the University District Street fair is the longest running festival of its kind in the nation. The University District Street fair brings together the best in local arts & crafts, music, and food. Get ready for an amazing weekend at the U District Streetfair!

The University Street fair harbors an array of arts and crafts by more than 170 vendors along with food from around the world in two food courts and a food-truck corral with burgers, barbecue, corn dogs, elephant ears, gluten-free and paleo food, and more.

History of the University Street fair

The U District Partnership (formerly the U District Chamber of Commerce) held Seattle’s first modern street fair on May 23 and 24, 1970. Police closed University Way NE to traffic from NE 50th Street to NE 41st Street, and allowed “The Ave” to host 300 vendors and artists who catered to nearly 50,000 visitors during the weekend. The success of the first University District Street Fair was all the more remarkable given the political and social tensions of the time. Riots had divided the U District community on several occations the previous August and only weeks earlier thousands of UW students had protested the United States invasion of Cambodia and the killings of four demonstrating students at Kent State.
