Saturday, February 11, 2017 to Sunday, February 12, 2017

This event has expired.

Pacific Science Center proudly partners with EMP Museum and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center to bring teachers STEAM Power, a day dedicated to inspiring and supporting educators in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math). Take part in your choice of two, 2-hour, skill-based workshops at these three Seattle Center area venues, a stimulating full lunch keynote and tasty snacks throughout the day. These workshops are designed especially for educators addressing a broad spectrum of STEAM learning, highlighting key topics from each organization’s specific areas of expertise, taught by each organization’s staff and professional educators.

The cost to attend STEAM Power is $55, and includes seven Washington state clock hours. Call (206) 443-2908 for more information about the event.

This year, there are tracks tailored to elementary and secondary levels. Please indicate your choice when registering.

February 11, 2017 Workshops:
Data Sculptures at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center
Build creative and educational 3-D models for telling stories with data. Data Sculptures allow students to engage more deeply with the information they learn in class and create striking visuals to display.

Find Stories in the Stars at Pacific Science Center
How can you use astronomy, mythology, and current sci-fi to get your students excited about STEM and the arts? Participants will experience a planetarium show, engage with peers, and take away ideas for integrated lessons.

Math Moves! Science Struts! Brain-Based Strategies for Kinesthetic Learners at EMP Museum
Explore the BrainDance to warm up your bodies and brains. Investigate math and science concepts through movement. Take away lesson plans to help you engage your kinesthetic and spatial learners, introduce movement in the classroom, reframe math and science concepts, and assess learning through movement.

Tinker Tank Teaching at Pacific Science Center
Folks are building, making, and tinkering from Anacortes to Walla Walla, and the Tinker Tank staff at the Science Center can help you bring this excitement to your classroom. You’ll get to try out tinkering challenges infused with arts, and make a plan for adopting them into your classroom.
