Join KCTS 9 and its Community Advisory Board in Vancouver for Raising the Bar: Leadership for the Next Generation. Enjoy an evening of inspiration, learning and discussion with leaders from local government, sport and business.

 

As the decision-makers and guardians of the future, the next generation of leaders will have much on their shoulders, from the challenges of ongoing environmental, economic, social and political issues to, the birth of new industries, technologies and trends. So it is more important than ever that the youth and young adults of today are inspired to pick up the mantle, raise the bar and become strong leaders of integrity, innovation and vision for a positive future. Join us to hear our speakers share their own stories of success, teamwork, coaching and mentoring as leaders in their field.

Tickets are free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required. There will be a reception with light refreshments for all guests from 5:30 PM - 6:15 PM.

About the speakers:

Host:

David Kroman - David Kroman is the City Reporter for Crosscut. A Bainbridge Island native, David has also worked as a teacher, winery cellar hand, shellfish farmer and program director of a small non-profit.

Featuring:

Claire Martin - A qualified meteorologist and passionate environmentalist, Martin ran as Green Party candidate in North Vancouver in the Canadian 2015 federal election campaign. She is an award-winning TV host/presenter and a veteran of the Canadian media industry, has worked in the public service, as well as on and off camera for public and private broadcasters for nearly 30 years.

Mayor Rob Vagramov - Among the youngest leaders ever elected to serve Port Moody when he first joined City Council in 2014, Robert Vagramov has a passion for public service, a commitment to good government that serves all of our community, and a bold vision for the city’s future that will keep Port Moody’s amazing quality of life front and centre as the city grows.

Thea Culley - Thea Culley is enthusiastic and committed to having a positive influence on the Canadian and global sport landscape. A strong believer of athlete-centered sport, she is currently the Vice President of AthletesCAN, the voice of Canadian national team athletes. Before retiring from international competition in 2016, Thea led the Canadian National Field Hockey Team to capture a bronze medal at the 2015 Pan American Games, the first Canadian women’s field hockey team to medal at the Games since 1999.

Danny Robinson - An entrepreneur and innovator who has started 4 internet companies, run a government owned innovation organization, created a startup acceletaor and worked to promote Vancouver's startup scene. He believes that entrepreneurs can use internet-technology to bring us world peace, bio-technology to end disease and hunger and clean technology to heal our planet.
