Press for the People: A Grassroots Media Workshop

Saturday, June 4, 2016

This event has expired.

With more than one in five of Seattle residents being born outside the U.S., our city is diversifying rapidly. Immigrants and people of color have shaped Seattle into what it is today, and should certainly shape our media outlets and the coverage we do. We believe that diverse media is better, and that diverse perspectives and voices are what power good journalism. At the same time, access to the press and journalism skills are very limited for the everyday Seattleite.
Join KCTS 9, Crosscut, The Seattle Globalist, South Seattle Emerald, International Examiner, Low-Power FM and The Seattle Channel for a day of workshops and discussions on navigating the cycles of storytelling.
In this all day workshop, participants will learn how to generate story ideas, identify and interview sources, navigate and pitch to local media, produce multi-media photo, audio, and video stories, and connect with local editors with whom they can pitch future story ideas. They’ll also have the opportunity to take part in a Seattle Channel video storytelling booth to share their perspective on current local challenges and opportunities. The day will close with an open reception for reporters, editors, civic leaders, local residents, and friends to join in networking and a headshot photo booth.
When: Saturday, June 4, 2016
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
