Path With Art: We Are All Here

Friday, July 22, 2016 - 6:00pm to Friday, August 12, 2016 - 6:00pm

This event has expired.

Crosscut is partnering with Path With Art for We Are All Here, a community-based, interdisciplinary art project that makes use of poetry, visual art, and music to bring diverse populations together for meaningful exchange.

In the spring of 2016, Path With Art students gathered weekly at the Seattle Art Museum. They worked with public artist Kristen Ramirez and internationally acclaimed, multi-disciplinary artist Martha Rosler, who recently received the The New Foundation’s $100K prize to write poems and translate those poems into visual art. The poems were inspired by the students’ understanding that all residents should play a crucial role in shaping the ongoing evolution of Seattle — that We Are All Here. The beautifully painted banners that resulted from their efforts are currently on display in Occidental Square.

This summer, Path With Art students invite all Seattleites to join in the conversation We Are All Here by contributing their own poems inspired by the theme We Are All Here. Poems can be submitted online and will be published on Path with Art’s website. Twice this summer, a jury of local poets will convene to select a handful of submissions to serve as inspiration for additional banners.

Path with Art is also hosting Painting and Poetry workshops underneath the banners in Occidental Square. The classes are free to the public and we encourage you to drop-in.

We Are All Here

  • Poetry and painting workshops, Fridays, June 17–July 8, 3:00–5:00 p.m, and July 22–August 12, 3:00–5:00 p.m
  • Poetry reading, August 26

Path With Art is an arts and social justice non-profit that provides access to the arts for adults in recovery from homelessness and other trauma. Our work is driven by our vision: A world where arts engagement is recognized as transformative — connecting the individual with self, the self with community, and communities with society. In this world, the power of arts engagement is available for all.
