Welcome to The Savory 6 – a weekly column featuring six weekly questions for one of the guests on our show. Check, Please! Northwest is all about dining out, but that’s not the only thing that happens at the table. When you put three strangers together and encourage banter, anything can happen! It’s a happy byproduct of the show and it’s one of my favorite parts – getting to know all of these food-loving folks. In this weekly article, we get to dig a little deeper into one of our guest’s culinary quirks and preferences. This week, program manager Andrea Frabotta shares her favorite spot, Dinette. Dinette is unfortunately closed until further notice, but our guests had a great time trying everything from ricotta gnocchi to spicy Tunisian fish stew to bread pudding. We try to celebrate anything and everything with a trip to a new (or old favorite) restaurant! It’s hard to do but I try to keep up with my sister who is always trying new places, because she lives in Seattle and all. I’m not jealous or bitter, no I am not. Fill in the blank: If I see something with _________ on a menu, I HAVE to order it. The word “SMOKED” always draws me in – I recently had a dessert with smoked pineapple in it at Poppy, which was amazing. I always order sturgeon whenever I see it as well! What is your signature dish—something you make well and consistently? Turkey tetrazzini – best made with leftover Thanksgiving turkey, but I do also make it with leftover roast chicken as well. I know it by heart - it’s pretty simple but hearty and satisfying, and you can stretch a little bit of meat out for days and days and never get tired of it. I am pretty sure I have never tossed out any leftover tetrazzini, if you get my drift . Do you have a morning consumption ritual & what is it? In a perfect world, I’d rotate between shrimp & grits, a classic nearly-English breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms and potatoes, and a delicious croissant/coffee cake/scone with rich coffee and whole milk. In reality, my mornings are pretty ordinary – either a sausage & egg English muffin with coffee and juice, or honey Greek yogurt with coffee and juice (a girl has to watch her figure). I refuse to skip breakfast. I LOVE breakfast. Sometimes I have it again for dinner! Most awesome OR annoying food trend? I find stacked food, or stuff in a ring mold, annoying and dated – the 90s called and it wants its food back! Awesome trends would include smoked foods (see above), unusual seasonings and ingredients that I have to look up on my phone, and desserts with savory and salty elements. If you were stuck on a deserted island and only had ONE food with you, what would it be? Shrimp, my favorite all time food. I’m like Bubba in “Forrest Gump” that way – just don’t make me start listing all the ways you can have it. Because I CAN do that but you’ve all seen the movie, right?
