Puget Sound Matters

Tom Skerritt is an outdoorsy, outspoken family man who has made his home in Seattle and the San Juan Islands since the 1980s. He is an Emmy-award winning actor who has appeared in more than 35 feature films and numerous television and stage productions. He is active in the Seattle art community as a member of the Seattle Arts Commission and a faculty member of TheFilmSchool. He also is on the board of directors for American Rivers a nonprofit organization committed to protecting rivers across the country. Skerritt fell in love with Puget Sound when he first arrived here and still feels the same way today. He enjoys ocean kayaking and taking in the beauty of Puget Sound, but he worries about the big picture. "I think that's what people don't quite attach themselves to the connections, the river and the connections to the ocean, fresh water to salt water. If we don't understand that cycle and our part of the cycle, we're in trouble."
