Hi Todd - we changed from UHF 41 to VHF 9. This signal costs less to broadcast and maintain--saves a big amount of power every month, and does not need to be rebuilt at a high cost (in the tens of thousands) every few years. It also carries better over water and a little further over land obstructions.
Sometimes if rescanning doesn't work, unplugging the box or TV for at least a minute can prompt a more complete rescan the next time you try.
If that still doesn't work, you can call or e-mail us (contact info above right) and we'll troubleshoot with you.

Why are you the ONLY channel broadcasting on VHF. I bought a new HTV antenna last Fall. Everything worked fine until now. Why didn't you stay on UHF where all the other channels are broadcasting. I will miss you.

Channels 11-KSTW and 13-KCPQ are also returning to the VHF band.
We've been recommending an all-band antenna for our viewers and it is really frustrating that many antennas were sold as "DTV antennas" with UHF only. I'm sorry that this happened to you and hope that at some point you may be able to replace it and get channels 9, 11 and 13 again.

Very disappointing to find out that after years of having the best DTV signal (7 of 10 bars), I've lost my favorite station this morning, in Duvall. Rescanning has not brought 9.1, 9.2, or 9.3 back to life. I'm still receiving 11.1 just fine, and 13.1 and 13.2 arrived for the first time ever this morning after rescanning. I'm surprised you dropped out, since I thought your tower was very close to the KSTW tower.
At least KBTC comes in periodically so I'm not completely without my PBS fix. I hope you'll be able to do something to improve the signal on your new channel assignment; I'd have to leave the KTCS family.

We have a digital TV and antenna. Other channels worked fine this morning. Channel 9 didn't, but 9.1, 9.2, and 9.3 did, (and they didn't yesterday.) I am assuming that 9.1 is the regular programming. Is that right? Great to have 3 channels of 9, since we don't watch any others.
BTW, we also hooked up our TV as a computer monitor, and watch PBS and other programs (Democracy Now, etc.) through the computer on the TV. Works great, and of course you watch at any time.
Hi John - Yes, 9.1 is our regular programming in HD (converter boxes will show this in standard definition). Glad to hear you're enjoying V-me and Create and PBS online too! You can also get all our local shows on demand at KCTS9.org/video, and full-length PBS shows by clicking the "PBS video" banner on that page.

I am not sure why KCTS decided to stop the old digital broadcasts in the middle of the night, nevertheless we have rescanned and found the new station signal. However, only one TV in the entire building is getting a signal strong enough to be viewable. This is with a variety of antennae and a combination of new digital TVs and converter boxes. This is also the ONLY local channel that can't be viewed. Think you'd better step it up or just let viewers know that if they use an antenna for reception, they may as well give up on KCTS. And please don't assume it is "user error". We are very experienced with digital reception.

On June 10 I hooked up my converter box and did an auto-scan. All the local stations played via the converter box EXCEPT KCTS. Any suggestions for getting KCTS to work after June 12?
Thank you,
Chris Nielsen
Now that KCTS 9 is broadcasting digital on VHF you may be able to receive KCTS 9 HD. Be sure you have a vhf/uhf all-band antenna. With the antenna connected perform a channel scan. If aren’t able to tune KCTS 9 try using the menu to bring up the signal quality or signal strength meter. Adjust your antenna to maximize the signal quality then manually add the channel or perform another re-scan. Depending on your location you made an outdoor antenna, be sure to get a vhf/uhf all-band antenna.
