National Parks
Part 3 of 4
During the 1960s, Floyd Dominy of the Bureau of Reclamation wanted to build more dams on the Colorado River, which would have flooded most of the Grand Canyon. Prominent environmentalist David Brower, with the help of the Sierra Club, led a campaign against the dams. At this time, the Sierra Club was also rallying support for a national Redwood forest. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed bills to protect both Sierra Club projects.
