Since April 22, 1970 people around the world have been celebrating Earth Day and raising the public's awareness of the environment. From coordinated global campaigns to individual and community grassroots efforts, Earth Day events have involved citizens in a wide range of efforts to make the world a safer place to live. Since the first Earth Day, environmental consciousness has become mainstream, but while there is broad support for the well-being of "Mother Earth," there is still disagreement over what steps individuals, corporations and nations should take to protect it.
