Chip Hanauer is considered the best hydroplane racer in the world. He has won the American Power Boat Association (APBA) Gold Cup a record 12 times, and is the driver of one of the most famous boats in APBA history, the Miss Budweiser. He was inducted into the International in 1995 as their youngest inductee. In 2005, he was inducted into the International Motorized Vehicles Hall of Fame.
Chip retired from hydroplane racing in 2000. Today, Chip Hanauer travels at a much slower speed on Puget Sound in his sailboat. He is also a public speaker motivating audiences with his "Lessons from a Dangerous Life". Chip has spent a lot of time on Puget Sound; he grew up water skiing and clamming on it, and spent a large part of his professional career racing on the Sound. He has seen it change, and is passionate about working to preserve the Sound in all its natural beauty.
