Puget Sound Matters

The Alliance for Puget Sound Shorelines is a partnership of People For Puget Sound, The Trust for Public Land, and The Nature Conservancy brought together to protect and restore Puget Sound's shorelines and ensure they're available for people to enjoy for generations to come. The Russell Family Foundation awarded the initial money and the group will use this to raise a total of $80 million dollars from the private and public sector for the first three years of the program. The campaign will ultimately grow to be a 10-year, multi-billion dollar campaign. The alliance is focusing on shorelines because of their ecological importance and their connection for people. If people don't have access to the Sound they are less likely to feel connected and care about it.Today, less that 10 percent of Puget Sound shoreline is open to the public. One of the goals of the Alliance is to create 10 new parks and natural areas along the Sound over the next three years. Additional goals for the next 10 years include restoring 100 miles of shoreline through on-the-ground restoration, and protecting another 1,000 miles of shoreline.
