Sample bequest language for supporters of KCTS 9

As you consult your attorney on the selection of appropriate wording to reflect your own goals and intentions regarding KCTS 9, be sure the station's correct legal name appears in all final documents:

"KCTS Television, a Washington nonprofit corporation, or its successor."

A General Bequest of a stated sum of money may be worded:

"I give to KCTS Television, a Washington nonprofit corporation, or its successor [insert here the exact dollar amount]."

A Specific Bequest of a certain asset from your estate may be worded:

"I give to KCTS Television, a Washington nonprofit corporation, or its successor [insert here a description of the particular property]."

A Residuary Bequest, after other bequests and expenses have been paid, may be worded:

"I give to KCTS Television, a Washington nonprofit corporation, or its successor all [or a portion] of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate."

Designation by Program Area

We welcome support of program areas (such as children's educational, current affairs, nature documentaries, etc.) and ask only that designations reflect program areas rather than individual shows. For example, if a bequest stated that funds were to be designated for the MacNeil/Lehrer Newshour, KCTS 9 could no longer utilize those funds as the show no longer exists under that name (it is now called The Newshour with Jim Lehrer). In this case, a designation to support current affairs programming would allow the station to continue to create and purchase the kind of programming the donor enjoyed.

A Residuary Bequest with a Program Area Designation may be worded:

"I give to KCTS Television, a Washington nonprofit corporation, or its successor all [or a portion] of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate for the support of children's educational programming."

We invite you to discuss with us confidentially endowment possibilities and programming designations. Bequests are a key element in providing stability for the future of public television in the Northwest. If you name KCTS Television in your will, we would appreciate it if you would send a copy of that portion of the will pertaining to KCTS 9 to:

Planned Giving Office
KCTS Television
401 Mercer Street
Seattle, WA 98109

By informing KCTS 9 of your gift, you help us plan for the station's future. You also give us a chance to thank you and to invite you to join the Legacy Circle, which participates in station activities and special events including an annual luncheon with KCTS 9's President.
