Swedish Medical Center is the largest nonprofit health provider in the Greater Seattle area with three hospitals and numerous clinics, emergency rooms and specialty centers. KCTS 9 visited the Oncology Pharmacy at the Cancer Institute on Swedish's First Hill campus, where Lanny Turay, the Pharmacy Manager of Oncology Services, showed us what safe drug handling practices and equipment they use.

Sue Crump was a pharmacist for 23 years, - a "mixer" who prepared chemotherapy drugs. In 2009, she developed pancreatic cancer and died one year later. While the cause of her cancer is uncertain, Sue suspected it was from years of exposure to dangerous chemotherapy drugs. Before she died, Sue shared her story so others will be aware of the risks of handling chemotherapy agents.
