Series Description

KCTS 9 Spotlight on the Arts are 60-seconds to two-minute long segments highlighting local artists and arts organizations. KCTS 9 Spotlight on the Arts supports the Pacific Northwest visual and performing art community through increased exposure of their work and events.

Biographies


Terry Murphy, Producer

In addition to Spotlight on the Arts, Terry Murphy produces stories for KCTS 9 Connects and About the Money. Terry has worked at every TV station in Seattle for a wide variety of shows including Evening Magazine, Northwest Afternoon, special projects, public affairs and children’s programming. Her work has taken her everywhere from Alaska to Brazil. National and regional awards include American Women in Radio and Television, two Gabriels and PM Magazine National Honors, several regional Emmys and Academy of Religious Broadcasting awards.

After six years as the Executive Producer of Broadcasting for the Seattle Archdiocese, Terry continues to specialize in producing videos for education and non-profit services helping to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations such as Providence Hospice Pediatric Programs.

Terry graduated from Gonzaga University where she was chosen from a national competition by the International Radio and Television Society to do her first internship at WNEW-TV in Manhattan. After almost 30 years in broadcasting, Terry still believes it’s a joy and a privilege to tell other people’s stories -- especially here at KCTS 9.

Jay Parikh, Executive Producer

As Executive Director of Program Development & Distribution, Jay Parikh manages the station’s Program Marketing and Distribution departments. He is also responsible for the planning and execution of strategic relationships that contribute to KCTS 9’ co-production agreements, domestic and international program distribution, ancillary sales and retail operations. Jay brings more than thirty years of experience to his various duties. Regionally and nationally he has acquired, produced, packaged and marketed content in a variety of media and platforms, including legitimate theater, concerts, television, home video and digital media. At KCTS 9, Jay also serves as Executive Producer for the station’s nationally broadcast travel and cooking programs. Projects under his supervision include Graham Kerr’s Gathering Place, Nick Stellino’s Family Kitchen and the James Beard-award-winning Chefs A’ Field. Jay also overseesThe Seasoned Traveler and Smart Travel with Rudy Maxa and Adventure Travels.

In 1978, Jay earned a Master of Fine Arts in Administration degree from the Yale School of Drama. He did his undergraduate work at Eastern Washington University after graduation from Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Washington.

Jay, his wife Monica, and their three children live in Bellevue, Washington, accompanied by their geriatric dog, Shelby. The Parikhs are involved in various neighborhood and PTA activities, and have lived and traveled throughout the world.
