KCTS 9 National Parks Pledge
Visiting a park takes so little time and gives us so much in return — parks reduce stress, put us in touch with our natural world and provide habitat for other species. The National Parks and Washington and British Columbia parks—national, provincial, state and local—will encourage you to be more informed, involved and inspired.
Take KCTS 9’s National Parks pledge and then take a hike—you’ll thank us later!
To help promote and preserve our parks for future generations, I will undertake at least four of the following…
- Visit a national park or conservancy for a day or overnight trip. (When you get back, log it in our story share project!)
- Leave no trace when I visit any park. Walk on trails, collect and pack out my trash, and keep pets leashed (where permitted).
- Kids:
- Join a Junior Rangers program or get in touch with nature through Big Brothers Big Sisters
- Boy Scouts of America
- Camp Fire USA
- Girl Scouts of Western Washington
- IslandWood
- Metrocenter YMCA
- Mount BakerCouncil or
- Nature Vision
- Volunteer for the National Parks (or even go to work for the parks!).
- Rebuild trails with a Volunteer Vacation with Washington Trails Association
- Attend a screening of The National Parks and join the discussion on the importance of parks to our community and region.
- Tune in for National Parks: Northwest Stories on September 18 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. to learn about national parks in our region.
- Watch the Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan documentary The National Parks: America’s Best Idea on KCTS 9, premiering September 27 at 8:00 p.m.
- Visit a neighborhood Parks & Recreation Center in my region and find out what they have to offer my community.
