We look at the hotly contested race for the 1st Congressional District between Republican John Koster and Democrat Suzan DelBene.

About the Episode

This week we look at the hotly contested race for Washington's 1st Congressional District between Republican John Koster and Democrat Suzan DelBene. The two squared off in a KCTS 9/League of Women Voters debate where they had differing views on job creating, tax reform, Obamacare, bi-partisanship, and education. We recap the debate with analysis from our Insiders Roundtable. We also meet two first-time candidates running for political office in this 2012 election – Republican Dixie Kolditz, who is running for state representative in southwest Washington's 19th legislative, and Democrat Pablo Gonzalez, seeking the state representative post in the 15th legislative district in Central Washington. We find out why they decided to run, and the challenges of doing so. Plus, we have a conversation with Susan Ford Bales, daughter of former President Gerald and First Lady Betty Ford. Bales visited Seattle on behalf of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We find out how her mother's breast cancer diagnosis impacted her life and helped to bring national awareness to this serious women's health issue.
