About the Episode

Heidi O’Malley moderates a debate on I-522, an initiative to the Washington State Legislature to establish mandatory labeling of foods produced through genetic engineering. It has become one of the most talked about fall initiatives, and one of the most expensive initiatives in state history. Both sides of the issue discuss what you need to know about this food labeling proposal.

You eat different food than they do on the westside ? The bill was proposed to the legislature by wheat farmers in the Waterville area, it is not a westside agenda. The westside newspapers have done a much better job of presenting the legislation and giving it press coverage. Our local paper is scientifically illiterate and has been lacking in any factual presentation on either side of the issue. Our local legislator helped write the bill. What you say is just one more attempt at division, nothing productive there.

my only question about 522 is why should us on the eastside vote yes on what seems so far as to be a seattle agenda?
