With skyrocketing costs on everything from food to utilities, families losing their homes, retirement accounts shrinking and millions of Americans without a job, it’s no wonder that Washingtonians are feeling swamped by the wake of the economic downturn. To make matters worse, small-time scammers and white-collar crooks alike have emerged with a new crop of scams and schemes designed to take advantage of today’s turbulent economy.

KCTS 9 and AARP would like to give you the tools you need to protect your money and weather the financial storm. At this workshop, you will learn how to outsmart investment fraud, stay safer online, guard your identity, protect your retirement savings, cut costs and save money.

Get top-notch advice from experts including: the Attorney General’s Office, Microsoft, the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Financial Institutions, and the Washington State Crime Prevention Association.

Participants will receive free educational materials on how to navigate today’s tough economy.  Lunch is also provided.

Space is limited, register online at events@kcts9.org or by calling 1.800.362.6463.

The Taking Charge in Tough Times workshop is funded in part by a grant from the Investor Protection Trust (IPT). The IPT is a nonprofit organization devoted to investor education. Since 1993, the IPT has worked with the States to provide the independent, objective investor education needed by all Americans to make informed investment decisions.
