Genetic Warfare: How We Change Viruses & How They Change Us

Viruses and animals have been engaged in an evolutionary arms race for millions of years, evolving and counter-evolving in an attempt to get a leg up. At the January Queen Anne Science Cafe, join the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's Greg Brennan, D.V.M., Ph.D., to discover how this conflict has led to changes in existing genes, outright theft of other genes, and even some cooperation between viruses and their hosts.

*Note: Due to the New Year's holiday, the January Queen Anne Science Café has been moved to Wednesday, January 2. Queen Anne Science Café is (usually) held on the first Tuesday of each month. Did you miss a café and want to hear the discussion? Most Science Cafés are recorded by KCTS 9 and are available for online viewing. Queen Anne Science Cafés take place at T.S. McHugh's and are presented in partnership with Pacific Science Center and KCTS 9.
