Is Earth’s Magnetic Field About to Reverse? At Tacoma Science Cafe
Peter Selkin, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Environmental Geophysics, UW - Tacoma
Earth’s magnetic field, produced by our planet’s molten outer core, has reversed itself many times throughout Earth’s 4.5 billion-year history. Will the North Magnetic Pole head south again anytime soon? Join UW – Tacoma’s Peter Selkin, Ph.D., to explore what we know about Earth’s magnetic field, its history of reversals, and how we use the geological record to look into the deep Earth.
Tacoma Science Café is held on the second Tuesday of each month. Did you miss a café and want to hear the discussion? Most Science Cafés are recorded by KCTS 9 and are available for online viewing. Tacoma Science Cafés take place at The Swiss Pub and are presented in partnership with Pacific Science Center and KCTS 9.
