The Savory 6 with Evan Smith

Welcome to The Savory 6 – a weekly column featuring six weekly questions for one of the guests on our show. Check, Please! Northwest is all about dining out, but that’s not the only thing that happens at the table. When you put three strangers together and encourage banter, anything can happen! It’s a happy byproduct of the show and it’s one of my favorite parts – getting to know all of these food-loving folks. In this weekly article, we get to dig a little deeper into one of our guest’s culinary quirks and preferences.

On this week’s show, software developer Evan Smith shares Geraldine’s Counter – a colorful Columbia City joint that boasts quality comfort food and all-day breakfast. We didn’t get a chance to talk about it on the show, but Evan says you have to go back and try the coffee cake. Tune in June 19th at 7:30 pm on KCTS 9. Watch Evan’s restaurant pick online now.

Meet Evan Smith…

How often do you dine out?
More than I should. About twice a week.

Fill in the blank: If I see something with _________ on a menu, I HAVE to order it.
Generally speaking, Ahi Tuna is a done deal. The meal is pretty much guaranteed to be light and tasty - provided the tuna is fresh.

What is your signature dish—something you make well and consistently?
Egg Muffin Sandwiches, or as I call them, Egg Muffin Sammies (see what I did there?). One egg, any way you like, provided that the way is scrambled, fried, or over easy. I typically use different veggies and cheeses for variety. Avocado and bacon crumbles are the constants. There are lots of ways to mess up an egg…and this is one of them!

Do you have a morning consumption ritual & what is it?
Coffee and peanut butter toast. What can I say? I’m a simple man.

Most awesome OR annoying food trend?
Awesome: Bacon-wrapped dates. Can’t get enough of these little guys. I wouldn’t mind if they were everywhere. Come to think of it, is there a bacon-wrapped date food truck I don’t know about?

Annoying: What is it with making patrons bus their own tables? I get it, say, at a coffee shop, where food isn’t the top priority, but at a real restaurant? When it was a handful of restaurants, it was charming. Now I feel like it’s everywhere. One of my favorite places actually takes this a step farther and makes you set your own table and serve your own drinks! I can’t wait till someone opens a restaurant where I get to cook my own food. They could call it Your House.

If you were stuck on a deserted island and only had ONE food with you, what would it be?
It was a real toss-up here between cheesesteak and grapefruit. In the end, I think I’m going grapefruit, because, you know, scurvy.

I believe that a home foreclosure can have a significant effect on the applicant's life. Real estate foreclosures can have a Seven to ten years negative effects on a debtor's credit report. The borrower who have applied for a mortgage or virtually any loans even, knows that the actual worse credit rating will be, the more hard it is to obtain a decent mortgage. In addition, it may possibly affect any borrower's chance to find a decent place to lease or hire, if that becomes the alternative houses solution. Great blog post.
