About The Episode

When soldiers return home, they leave the combat behind, but sometimes the combat doesn't leave them. An estimated 20 percent of returning soldiers suffer from some type of psychological health problem after deployment, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD. A new treatment using virtual reality is proving an important educational tool to help these soldiers cope with the disorder. In this episode, we profile a program from the U.S. Defense Department which is doing just that, using the virtual world Second Life.
