KCTS 9 Educational Workshops: Conflict Resolution

conflict resolution

Promoting peaceful cooperation over violence and aggression.

Have you ever played a thumb-war? You and your friend wrestle to pin each other's thumbs down so they can't move. Nobody ever just asks the other person to let them win. We tend to use aggression rather than cooperation as our first option. Children who watch us learn that pattern, too. What can you do to show children other options? Participants learn how to help children develop lifelong strategies that they can use to resolve conflicts without being aggressive or violent, as well as the difference between discipline and conflict resolution.

Key messages:

  • Stop the conflict
  • Help children verbalize needs and emotions
  • Validate children’s feelings
  • Work together to seek a solution
