KCTS 9 Educational Workshops: Preventing Childhood Obesity
Using fun activity and good eating habits to keep children healthy.
One in five children in the U.S. are considered overweight, to the point where it could cause additional health problems like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke. Ten percent of those children are under the age of 5. This workshop was created to help you focus on what you can do to help prevent health risks from developing.
Participants learn how to stop the epidemic of childhood obesity in its tracks, with easy-to-use strategies that help children eat healthy and keep their growing bodies in shape. In this workshop, participants create active games in small groups and report and demonstrate findings to the entire group.
Key messages:
- Develop healthy eating habits early
- Eat smaller portions throughout the day
- Kids need to be active at least one hour a day
- Be supportive
