Calls are coming in to our in-house call center and the biggest question is rescanning. If you had a digital TV or converter box working with KCTS 9 before today, and now aren't getting us... it's because we switched digital channels from UHF 41 to VHF 9. (For the full story, click here.)
The solution's pretty simple, though: You use your remote to rescan your digital tuner. Generally, you follow four steps and they tend to be:
1. Menu button on remote
2. Channel
3. OK, channel scan, autoscan, add channels, terrestrial, autotuning -- these all mean about the same thing.
4. OK button or enter (if needed, some will start scanning on step 3).
I did it at home this morning and it seems to be working for a lot of our viewers--but if you still have trouble, you can call these numbers for more help:
FCC: 1.888.CALL.FCC (1.888.225.5322)
Local: 1.800.796.5548 or 1.877.429.1811
You can also download our DTV help PDF here (click "Download Converter box connection diagram (PDF)"). It has a grid on page 11 for common DTV converter box rescan steps to help you out.
Update--Monday, June 15: Thanks for all your comments! Replies are slow, as we're still taking calls here, so thanks in advance for your patience as we work to reply to you all.

Following the instructions online, I purchased a used TV, digital converter box and new antenna at Best Buy specifically to watch KCTS. I've tried all the tips and I cannot get the channels back after rescanning. I live downtown, so signal strength isn't an issue.
I can't believe I paid for what are now useless electronics, since I am not interested in any other channels.

I am like you and many here. I got little help from KCTS beyond the pdf(and don't bother calling that FCC line - complete idiots there w/no clue beyond telling you to rescan for the rest of your life). Like you - I spent $$ on the box & digital antenna and was hoppin' mad that no matter what, no Ch.9.
But! one of the folks who posted here on this KCTS blog on Cap Hill did the trick (I'm on Beacon Hill - top floor of an apt building)they said to point my antenna towards Cap hill & to try diff. angles. After many many tries/reconfigured angles & rescanning a lot (3 days of this!) I just got the right angle!!! It's sure looks stupid, but I finally have Ch. 9. And - that's the only channel I care about - the rest are still barely coming in. So - try pointing directly towards Cap Hill! Tell me if it works.

I lost 9.1 9.2 9.3 and 11.1 here in 98032 as well . I guess it has to do with the switch from UHF to VHF. Oh well. I get all of the 28 KBTC channels just fine though. Unfortunately it seems that KBTC doesn't broadcast the show Doc Martin. Dang I was really enjoying that series.

I see we are not the only ones left out in the cold here. After the big switch, no KCTS. Yes, I re-scanned and adjusted my antenna, but the signal is too weak even with an amplifier. I refuse to get cable because the only channel we want is KCTS 9 (of course 9-1, 9-2 and 9-3).
I hope all this feedback will lead to a stronger transmitter signal, otherwise KCTS is going to lose hundreds, maybe thousands of subscribers.

I was doing great recording HD using my laptop as a PVR with a WinTV HD Tuner.......no need to subscribe to cable, satellite, or buy a pricey HD recorder. I even have a HD roof antenna, but rescanning/rabbit ears or Donkey Kong, no Channel 9. I get KBTC's 4 channels great, so I'll be watching & recording their PBS shows. I can no longer financially support a station that I cannot watch. Sorry KCTS.

We're in the same boat as all the other posts in 98056 (Renton). We're near the top of the hill, and recieved the UHF signal just fine. After the switch it's gone. We were able to get a very poor, broken signal by putting our indoor antenna on the outdoor deck, but mounting an outdoor antenna is not an option in an apartment building. We are very disappointed with the choice to revert to VHF.

Same thing here too (in Renton Highlands 98059), after the switch, cannot pick up 9,11,13 at all. Rescanning has not fixed.
