KCTS 9 is the largest public television station in the Pacific Northwest, reaching over 2 million viewers weekly in Washington and British Columbia. Located in the heart of Seattle at Seattle Center, KCTS 9 improves the quality of life in the communities we serve by providing meaningful programming on air, online and in the community that informs, involves and inspires.

An internship at KCTS 9 provides you with a valuable opportunity to learn about public television and the various aspects of operating a production studio and television station. Students will also have an opportunity to work in a highly creative environment in one of the industry’s leading PBS stations.

KCTS 9 internships are available year-round to individuals at all levels of experience. Applicants should be motivated, disciplined and energetic. Internships are unpaid positions. Our office hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. We are flexible on the days of the week and the times of the shifts. End date is also flexible but we require a minimum time commitment of 10 hours per week for 3 months.

Communications
This is an ideal position for a Communications or Public Relations major interested in television and in building his or her portfolio of writing samples.  

Communications: On-Air Promotion
This is an ideal position for a Communications or broadcast major interested in television and in building his or her portfolio of production samples.  This includes writing, editing, and field production in the on-air promotion realm.

Community Outreach
Interns learn how public television programming serves as a catalyst for community problem solving and change. Interns receive experience in event coordination, facilitation/public speaking, database organization, writing, and experiences in youth service and early childhood needs and practices.

On-Air Fundraising: Research & Production
Interns are involved in the following tasks: guest, talent, and crew booking and schedules; program research; script conforming and script writing; distribution of schedules; and other duties as needed.

Television Production
Interns support to a team of producers in story conception, development, research and production.  Interns are involved from pre-production to post-production and work directly with the Producers, Editors, and Cameramen.

Television Programming/Traffic
Interns learn promotion and scheduling strategies, Nielsen media research and analysis of statistical information, interface with Master Control and other departments, and have hands-on experience with records and feeds of programs and the generation of daily logs.   Students will learn how public television programming is scheduled and managed for broadcast.  

Web Production
Interns prepare, publish and maintain Web site content through the company’s content management system. Interns gain hands-on web production experience.
