Message from the President
Maurice “Moss” Bresnahan,President and CEO, KCTS Television
Dear KCTS Television members (and future members!):
When I received word that I had been chosen President & CEO of KCTS 9, the biggest challenge I faced initially was to stop smiling. Not only was I familiar with the natural beauty and creative energy found here (my father had been stationed in Seattle while in the Navy) but my many years in public television have left me well-acquainted with this station’s distinguished history.
KCTS 9 enjoys the reputation of being one of the most-watched PBS stations, and has a wonderful legacy of exemplary national and local programming—both of which come with tremendous responsibility.
That is why I would like to pledge to you that every day we will ask ourselves if everything we’re doing—from our programs to our educational outreach—is relevant to the lives you are leading. Have we done our best to inspire you? Have we placed a complex issue, or an intriguing person, or a riveting, littleknown story about our history or culture in front of you? Have we proven to you through our textured, in-depth coverage that we are worthy of the trust you place in us?
Like millions of others, I grew up watching Zoom and Electric Company, and later, an endless array of great PBS documentaries and dramas that made a lasting impression on me. I know firsthand how enriching public television can be—and now, as a parent, I get to witness how it educates and shapes the world for my son and daughter.
In order to maintain that relevance, we need to continue to flex our visionary muscles, and identify new digital platforms that will give us even more tools to engage viewers as we unveil new voices, and tap into the creative energy of local artists and independent media-makers.
With an engaged team—our staff, board of directors and advisory boards, corporate underwriters and you—I am convinced that the future of KCTS 9 will be bright enough to keep all of us smiling.
Maurice “Moss” Bresnahan
