Purpose: Contribute to KCTS 9 as a creative media organization through directing the Interactive Content and Interactive Services teams; oversee the creative and technical aspects of KCTS 9’s web and Internet properties; and work to grow a strong team skilled in using emerging media forms to reach more people, build a strong organization, and make a positive impact in the community.

Reports to: VP of Content
Status: Regular, Full-Time, Exempt

I. Lead

1. Lead strategic and tactical planning and execution of online content projects (singular event or campaign scale) and the creative  and technical work required to support it
2. Lead the creative and technical direction of, including staffing, equipment and support required to achieve a well-recognized, brand extending, publicly trusted digital gathering place for public media
3. Collaborate with senior management to define and present KCTS 9’s strategy for online content creation, distribution and monetization
4. Be able to track, recognize and report trends in digital media
5. Be a thought leader in digital media for KCTS 9
II. Manage
1. Establish processes and guidelines for defining future work
2. Recruit, supervise, lead and regularly mentor Interactive staff
3. Identify, secure, and maintain productive contact with vendors through an RFP process when needed to achieve objectives
4. Manage purchases and contracts
III.  Collaborate
1. Work with KCTS 9 departments both inside and outside Content division to ensure their online needs are being met
2. Collaborate with all levels of employees as needed
3. Conduct staff meetings, meetings with individuals or other forms of communication to insure team environment

Team Leadership

1. Bachelor’s Degree in communication, computer science, informatics  or other related field or equivalent work experience required; Master’s Degree preferred
2. 5 years’ management level experience leading web and or online media projects required
3. Experience with project management required; Agile methodology preferred
4. Strong knowledge of web production processes and Internet back-end technologies
5. Ability to communicate with and lead both creative and technical staff
6. Knowledge of video compression formats for web
7. Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, Content Management Systems (especially Drupal) and related technologies strongly preferred
8. Working knowledge of video editing and audio editing strongly preferred
9. Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, video editing and content management systems strongly preferred
10. Knowledge of AWS cloud computing services preferred
11. Ability to view data on a computer screen for long periods of time
12. Ability to regularly type on a keyboard
13. Ability to work some evenings, weekends, holidays as needed
14. Exhibit an understanding of public media mission and values
