Salary: $44,548.00 - $55,685.00 DOE
Purpose: Maintain transmitters to meet FCC requirements and insure quality television is delivered to reach more people, build a strong organization and make a positive impact in the community
Division: Engineering
Reports to: Executive Director of Engineering and Technical Planning
Status: Regular, Full-Time, Exempt
I. Maintain

  1. Test transmission systems to detect early signs of problems
  2. Provide on-going proof of performance to video and audio quality
  3. Conduct emergency repair of transmitter and sub-systems to stay “on-air”
  4. Implement preventative maintenance of transmitters
  5. Ensure annual tower inspections are conducted
  6. Ensure the KCTS 9 transmission site is maintained, clean and safe
  7. Ensure interconnect systems are working properly
  8. Ensure encoding, PSIP, datacasting, monitoring, and other associated systems are working properly
  9. Manage maintenance and monitor performance of generator and UPS to ensure reliable backup power source

II. Comply with Regulations

  1. Serve as Chief Operator for KCTS 9 Television
  2. Check operating logs to guarantee FCC compliances for KCTS and KYVE
  3. Ensure that applicable FCC and FAA rules and regulations are followed (RF radiation, EAS, tower light, tower painting, etc.)

III. Collaborate

  1. Must be able to communicate effectively within the Engineering department and with other departments as necessary
  2. Coordinate with Maintenance to keep transmitter functioning during “out-of-town” situations
  3. Serve as technical back-up to KYVE

  1. AA degree from an accredited technical school or equivalent experience required
  2. Five years’ experience VHF, UHF and microwave television transmitter maintenance experience required
  3. Advanced working knowledge and ability to operate and maintain audio, video, broadcast electronics and computer systems required
  4. Understanding of a broad range of computer operating systems, applications and hardware required
  5. Knowledge of applicable FCC & FAA regulations required
  6. Solid understanding of television and media broadcasting preferred
  7. Possession of FCC general operators license or SBE certification as a TV broadcast engineer, or higher, preferred
  8. Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Washington State drivers license
  9. Ability to regularly type on a keyboard
  10. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 30 pounds required
  11. Ability to use a variety of hand tools, power tools and various machines
  12. Ability to climb, squat, bend and twist as required
  13. Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays; and ability to respond to emergency calls on a 24 basis required
  14. Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical fabrication techniques preferred
  15. Regularly report to work as scheduled
