KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Plan Program and Production Elements
1. Participate in departmental production planning
2. Research, develop and recommend story ideas
3. Research, develop and recommend project/program ideas
4. Research and write treatments, story and program scripts
5. Research and book guests
6. Determine composition and flow of program
7. Research and write project treatment
8. Write and post copy for interactive media
9. Determine and order graphics
10. Prepare on-air talent for interviews
II. Produce Program and Production Elements
1. Produce documentaries and specials
2. Line-produce taped and live programs, and specials
3. Line-produce post-production sessions
4. Field-produce stories for weekly programs and specials
5. Produce web-ready video content
6. Oversee execution of production activities including Photographers and Editors related to assigned productions and individual projects
III. Manage
1. Secure and maintain rights, releases, and other documentation for broadcast and online production
2. Respond to viewer feedback and suggestions, including viewer e-mail
3. Follow archival processes as established by KCTS 9
4. Supervise interns
5. Assist with budget management as necessary
6. Act as backup for the Executive Producers as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES
1. BA degree in Journalism, Communications or related field (such as Art, Theater, Music, Digital Media) or equivalent experience required
2. Three to five years’ broadcast production experience with emphasis on content development
3. Experience in on-line journalism and storytelling including comfort with web publishing and social media tools highly desirable
4. Strong creative writing skills
5. Strong interest in civic engagement and public affairs
6. Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
7. Knowledge of History & Heritage, Science Literacy, and Arts & Culture preferred
8. Experience with video and audio editing strongly preferred
9. Ability to view data on a computer screen for long periods of time
10. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
11. Ability to regularly type on a keyboard
12. Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Washington State drivers license
13. Occasional lifting of production equipment required
14. Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays
15. Regularly report to work as scheduled
